KNX & DALI Building Automation

Unified control of lighting, blinds, and climate from one system

KNX is a global standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3) for decentralised building automation over a dedicated data bus cable, linking every control point in the building — lighting, blinds, climate, energy monitoring — without relying on a single central point that could take the whole system down if it fails.

DALI (IEC 62386) is a specialised lighting-control protocol enabling precise dimming and individual control of each light fitting, typically bridged into KNX through a DALI gateway for fully integrated lighting scenes.

Where It Sits in the Build Programme

Work starts at first fix — KNX bus cable is run alongside conventional electrical wiring before walls and ceilings close up, while actuators and DALI gateways are typically mounted inside distribution boards. Programming and final commissioning happen at the finishing stage.

How We Deliver Every Service

Regardless of system type, we follow the same engineering methodology from the first site visit through handover.

  • Site survey & requirements assessment
  • Engineering design & Bill of Quantities (BOQ)
  • Supply & installation
  • Testing & commissioning
  • Handover & user training
  • Ongoing maintenance, optional under an AMC

Typical Scope by Project Size

Residential Villa

Unified control of lighting, blinds, and climate for every room in a multi-floor villa, with pre-programmed scenes (cinema mode, away mode) and touch panels in each room.

Commercial / Multi-Floor Project

Floor-level lighting zones tied to occupancy and daylight sensors, DALI dimming for energy efficiency, and integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) for central monitoring.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between KNX and a WiFi-based smart home?

KNX is a decentralised system running over its own dedicated data cable, so it doesn't depend on WiFi stability or external cloud servers — giving it higher reliability for long-term projects.

Can KNX be added to an existing or already-finished building?

Yes, via wireless KNX (RF) units or surface-mounted conduit, though it's more costly and invasive than first-fix wiring — we recommend planning for it early wherever possible.

Who handles reprogramming after handover?

We retain the full as-built programming files, and annual maintenance contracts cover any reprogramming or later adjustments.
